Wind energy monitoring

The wind energy market, especially offshore is a market which is strongly driven by political conviction. The possible exit of fossil fuel usage for energy generation is a priority for most governments worldwide.

Wind energy is one of the energy generation methods which is looked at most of all in search of replacement for fossil fuel plants.

Wind energy parks are developed all over the world, and as it has a certain environmental impact, a lot of the parks are developed offshore.

Wind energy turbines are also known for their need for maintenance due to the large number of moving parts in the installation. The remote location of most of these turbines is a factor that sets back this necessary maintenance.

GSD Automation has developed a monitoring software package to monitor a large number of parameters, a large number of them based on vibration or working hours, enabling to perform predictive maintenance on the entire turbine installation. This to reduce the down-time of these wind turbines greatly.

As part of the package, all performance data is kept in a database and a fiscal energy generation report can be generated hourly, daily and monthly to show the actual production.

The interface is accessible via a dedicated web site, enabling the performance to be monitored from onshore. Maintenance personnel can also benefit from the extra functionality for email and/or SMS warnings which is added to the web page functionality.
